Laura's Story: A Game That Gave Me More Than a Win—It Gave Me Hope

Player Stories Aug 26, 2025

My name is Laura. I’m a single mom living in Shoreline, Washington. I’ve survived a kidney and pancreas transplant, battled type 1 diabetes since age 10, and faced more medical emergencies than I can count—including blindness, dialysis, heart complications, and multiple near-death experiences. By all accounts, I shouldn’t be here. But I am. And I’m still standing.

In the past, there were nights I didn’t know if I’d wake up the next morning. I used to pass out in my sleep from low blood sugar as many as three times a week. My partner at the time would stay up to check on me, calling 911 when things got bad. I believe he saved my life many times. I’ve been through it all: a blood clot in my heart, MRSA, even a full-body reaction that sent my entire body into uncontrollable and unstoppable quick jerking movements that sent my blood pressure into crisis levels.

But what hurt the most wasn’t the pain—it was the fear that I’d never become a mom.

Against every medical warning, I gave birth to my daughter at 39. She’s now five years old, bright, loving, kind, and perfect to me in every way! A few months ago, I also took in her 12-year-old half-sister when her biological mom could no longer care for her. Raising two girls alone on disability is tough. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

My wish as a mother is simple:

To live long enough to see my daughter turn 18.Because no child should have to grow up without a parent.

A few months ago, I downloaded Solitaire Clash. At first, it was just a fun way to unwind. But very quickly, it became something more.

As someone living on a fixed income, I’ve had moments where I couldn’t afford rent, groceries, or basic supplies. With Solitaire Clash, I’ve been able to play, win real money, and cash out directly to PayPal. That extra money? Sometimes, it’s what helped me pay a bill on time, or even buy detergent when we were down to our last load. I’ve tried other games, but none of them let me actually win like this one. This game is the only one that helped me when it really mattered.

It’s also truly just a fun game. I love the fast pace, the ability to double-click cards, and the friendly competition. I’ve always had a competitive streak—maybe it’s the twin sister in me—and I love how Solitaire Clash lets me challenge myself, improve my skills, and have fun, even when I’m not playing for money.

I may not have much. But I have enough.

I can still see. I can still walk. I can laugh. I have my daughters.

And thanks to this game, I even get a moment of peace when life feels overwhelming.

If my story helps even one person understand the seriousness of diabetes, or brings hope to someone fighting their own battle, then it’s worth sharing.

Thank you, Solitaire Clash, for being more than just a game. You’ve given me joy, support, and just a little more time to keep being the mom I always dreamed of becoming.
